Renowned martial arts instructor and Tamil actor Shihan Hussaini passed away in Chennai on March 25, after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. His family confirmed the news on social media, stating that he breathed his last in the early hours of the morning. As we remember his legacy, let’s take a look at his life, achievements, and lasting impact.

Who Was Shihan Hussaini?

Shihan Hussaini was a martial arts instructor who made a mark in Tamil cinema by sharing screen space with superstars like Kamal Haasan, Thalapathy Vijay, and Rajinikanth. Apart from his film career, he was a dedicated supporter of Jayalalithaa, often making headlines for his unwavering loyalty.

In 2016, he served as the general secretary of the Archery Association of Tamil Nadu, playing a key role in promoting archery in the state. His passion for coaching and sports development earned him widespread respect.

His Battle with Cancer and Contribution to Medical Research

During his battle with blood cancer, the Tamil Nadu government extended financial aid in recognition of his contributions to sports and martial arts. Even in his final days, he remained devoted to teaching and learning.

As a final act of generosity, he decided to donate his body for medical research. He requested that his remains be handed over to Sri Ramachandra Medical College, honoring its founder, Ramasamy Udayar, who had long supported his karate association.

Shihan Hussaini’s Last Wishes for Pawan Kalyan & Thalapathy Vijay

Shihan Hussaini had a special bond with Pawan Kalyan, whom he trained in martial arts. In the 1990s, when he had temporarily stepped away from teaching, Pawan Kalyan persistently visited him every day for a month, requesting training. Once accepted, Pawan Kalyan lived under strict discipline with Hussaini for over a year, performing daily chores while undergoing intense training.

Interestingly, Shihan Hussaini was unaware of Pawan Kalyan’s connection to Chiranjeevi at the time, as the actor never disclosed it. His dedication and humility helped him earn a black belt.

In his final days, Shihan Hussaini expressed his wish that Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan would take over his martial arts center and keep it running. He fondly recalled giving Pawan Kalyan the name ‘Pawan’ and believed he would fulfill his request.

Additionally, he hoped that Thalapathy Vijay would promote archery in Tamil Nadu and work towards sending a state athlete to the Olympics.
