Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Amaran’ Teaser Sparks Controversy in Tamil Nadu: Protests Erupt Over Alleged Negative Portrayal of Kashmiri Muslims

The unveiling of the teaser for Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming movie, “Amaran,” has ignited unrest in Tamil Nadu. Helmed by directors Rajkumar Periasamy and Stefan Richter, the film draws inspiration from the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a decorated Ashok Chakra awardee. Backed by Kamal Haasan’s production, the teaser has stirred a debate, particularly surrounding certain contentious scenes.

The Tamilaga Makkal Jananayaga Katchi (TMJK) has taken to the streets in protest following the teaser’s release, alleging that it portrays Kashmiri Muslims in a negative light. Accusing the film of fostering unwarranted animosity towards Kashmiri Muslims, the group contends that it undermines the harmonious coexistence of various religions in Tamil Nadu.

Demanding immediate action, TMJK members have called for the apprehension of both Sivakarthikeyan and Kamal Haasan. Effigies of the actors were set ablaze during the protests, where demonstrators vehemently insisted on stringent measures against the creators. “The teaser depicts Muslims and Kashmiris as terrorists, warranting swift governmental intervention to prohibit its release,” asserted a TMJK representative.

Despite the controversy, “Amaran” teaser garnered praise for its cinematic visuals and technical prowess upon its recent unveiling. Sivakarthikeyan’s portrayal of an army officer has also been lauded as a standout aspect of the teaser.
